Abstract
Objective Examine the relationship between alcohol consumption and alcohol related consequences (ARCs) for college students at a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI).
Participants Random sample of 375 students at a large university in the pacific south-west.
Methods Cross sectional study using an online version of the ACHA-NCHA II survey. Chi-square tests and stepped logistic regression models were conducted to explore the relationship between race/ethnicity and the experience of any alcohol-related consequence, adjusting for covariates.
Results Among heavy drinkers, Hispanic students, compared to White students, were 65.9% less likely to report one or more ARC (OR= 0.34, 95%CI = 0.15, 0.79).
Conclusions Given the severity of alcohol related consequences in the college population, the potential protective environmental effects of attending a HSI warrant further study.
